Fresh Air

It's funny, I just had an interesting conversation with Mark, our lead guru/developer. He's been sitting in front of the keyboard for basically the last couple of months doing various bug-fixes and generally wrestling with technology issues. Yesterday he abandoned his development PC and had his first customer-facing Jambo meeting. In our conversation afterwards, he kept saying how cool, and how refreshing it was to see the customer's excitement. He could see real passion and enthusiasm for what we are building. He commented on how nice it was to take a step back from the day-to-day detail work and see the bigger picture about what he is helping to develop. Just like we cross-train for excercise, we should cross-train in our job. If you are a developer, go on a few sales calls. If you're a sales guy, go report a few product defects. Mix it up and breathe some fresh air.

I have blog envy! Great blog Jim. I think cross training is a great idea and we should try to do more of it. This will help us create a company that has a deeper understanding of the customer's needs and a greater appreciation of one another's jobs. Keep it up!
